“Happy” world mental health day.
I hate that this day still has to exist for some people to acknowledge that mental health is equally as important as physical health.
Having poor mental health doesn’t have to instantly come with a label. We all have mental health that requires maintaining. Bad days don’t mean depression and being worried doesn’t instantly label you with anxiety. It’s like people are scared that showing any type of weakness puts them in a category with stigma and judgement.
I don’t understand how people can’t identify any scenarios in which their own mental health has taken a hit. Particularly in the last few years, I’m sure we can all point out places where we have felt less hopeful than normal. That doesn’t have to be something you are ashamed of.
This years mental health day focuses around the idea of tools and strategies to maintain good mental wellbeing. This looks different for everyone. The tools that soothe one, could heighten another so this is what makes our own mental health so unique.
Some of us are fortunate enough to experience more good days than bad and others are still shouting out for the help that just isn’t there yet; whether that be lack of availability, knowledge or support.
Regardless of your own mental health, be mindful of others.
I’m keeping this post short as I think it could otherwise give the wrong impression. I of course care about this day, but I wish that in 2021, we didn’t still need some fancy posters and campaigns to take notice of mental health.
